Edutopia Opens The Virtual Door On Our Classroom

We have spent the better part of a month in our class blogging, commenting on blogs and trying to extend our Personal Learning Networks.  In the last couple of weeks, we have started to see some evidence of what these connections can do.

First, there have been comments from a few people on our class blogs. Then, there was the post on the Student PLN blog about what we have been doing to show students the power of a PLN.  Today, we hit it big with an article in Edutopia! The blog post on the Edutopia site is titled A Web 2.0 Class: Students Learn 21st Century Skills, Collaboration, and Digital Citizenship.

There is nothing I could have said or done to create this first hand experience for our students and show them how connected they are to their world. The door has been opened for them and some people will be checking out their blogs and seeing what they have to say.  An opportunity has arisen for them to be heard.

With all that is being discussed about education of late, I think we need to heart the thoughts of our students more than ever.  Who will accept the challenge?

  1. Everyone loves a great shout out and I definitely think some students will work harder to be heard on the web. This article was a addition to our PLN journey. We just had a big shout out in this article and I can't wait to see where we'll be in the next few months.

  2. I think students are now learning how blogs impact networking and how people's opionion really matter. This class had definatly helped me understand this and understand that becoming known through your opinions is important. Web 2.0 has helped me start my PLN and understand exactly what that means.

  3. Students are learning that anyone can be heard on the web and that everyone has a voice on the web. Also this class has helped me understand that there are lots of people with the same intrests as me and I have gotten a better understanding of how I can have a voice on the internet using my PLN.

  4. By taking this class at BHS, I learned my voice and opinions can be heard. Creating a blog and a twitter account helps a student's PLN because it opens doors for connections of students around the world. The class has been taking place for a little over a month now and we have already connected with somany other students from other states. It makes you feel not as isolated to the same residents and open to other people.

  6. From being in this web 2.0 class, I have learned that there is a lot of opportunities for anyone's thoughts to be heard. There are so many ways people can communicate with each other now through the computer. I am building my PLN which will help me communicate my own opinions and thoughts so that people can learn from me and I can learn from people.

  7. I have learned a lot of great information, and websites to use for tools to help me keep organized on the internet from web 2.0. There have been some excellent opportunities for people to make a voice for themselves on the internet. I have created a twitter account, delicious account, and a blog to help me with my PLN.
